I’m taking part in Culture Smart! book blog tour, Culture Smart create travel guides for lots of different countries around the world. You can check some of them out over at there website

I chose the Singapore guide as I have always been really interested in Asian culture and learning more about the country hopefully one day I will be able to visit and this guide will come in very handy.

Culture Smart’s guide to Customs and Culture Singapore provides insightful information into the background and culture of Singapore. The information is very easy to read and very useful. I’m not one to usually read travel guides but had a rough guess of what I would find in it, but Culture Smart went above and beyond to give information about the history, religion, politics, etc.

Culture Smart’s guide to Singapore is jam-packed with information in only 169 pages. Singapore is an of coast city to Southern Malaysia, it is a multicultural country in which Chinese, Malaysian and Indian people all live in harmony. Its tropical climate means there are no distinctive seasons. With Singapore being multicultured means there is a wide variety of celebrations and festivals all year round in the heat.

I am so intrigued by the cultures used in Singapore, I adore countries that celebrate everybody being different at the beginning of the guide it talks about how Singapore come about to be multicultured and how they have learned to live in harmony. I found this very interesting and insightful, with everything that is happening in the World, Singapore gives us hope that one day we all may find peace.

Singapore is well known for its national pastime of a variety of cuisine, making it the perfect destination for everyone who loves food. Singapore’s multicultured population makes for a very interesting palate of food, it is all traditional and set into 5 main categories, those being: rice, noodles, seafood, meat, and snacks. Every July they hold a Singapore Food Festival that celebrates the unique cuisine.

The Culture Smart Singapore guide explains all of the background, religions, customs, traditions, lifestyles, tourism and business that you may need to know about before or during visiting Singapore, all of the information is reliable and well written. I found it easy to use the contents page to navigate my way to the sections I needed to know about.

I really loved the Travel, Health, and Safety section, I learned about MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) which operates in Singapore to get people around quicker and more efficiently. There is also contact numbers for the emergencies services with are all manned by English speakers, information that is very important has been made clearer using a different coloured box to separate the text.

At the back of the book are a very useful index and a further reading list of books for those looking for more information on the country.Ā  I feel like if I visited now, I wouldn’t feel like such an outsider, I have learned so much information about Singapore, and I would definitely use another Culture Smart book if I was traveling to a new destination. I wouldn’t look anywhere else for my travel guides, after finding Culture Smart!
